MGIMO and the Altai Republic discussed the creation of a new campus

On February 2, the head of the Altai Republic, Chairman of the Government of the Republic O.L.Khorokhordin met with Vice-Rector for Legal, Administrative and Digitalization S.V.Shitkov and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Altai tuu ra investor company S.B.Abramov. During the meeting, the parties discussed plans to create a MGIMO campus in the Altai Republic.



In June 2023, within the framework of the XXVI St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, MGIMO signed a trilateral agreement with the Government of the Republic of Altai and Altai Tuu Ra LLC on the establishment of a new university campus in the Republic.



As a follow-up to the agreements reached, a working group was established, headed by MGIMO Rector Academician A.V.Torkunov and Head of the Altai Republic O.L.Khorokhordin. It includes heads of relevant authorities, representatives of the University, the Public Chamber of the Altai Republic, Gorno-Altai State University and investor companies.



During the meeting, the parties agreed that the first MGIMO branch outside the Urals will include a 550-seat lyceum school where children from the Altai Republic and other regions will be able to prepare for university admission, as well as three new faculties.



The Digital Faculty will train bachelors with knowledge and competencies in the field of big data analysis and artificial intelligence in the context of the specifics of international relations. The Linguistic Faculty will be represented by a bachelor's degree program for the training of international linguists. It is also envisaged to create a Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality to train specialists with modern knowledge in the field of technologies for providing tourist services, organizing travel agency activities, developing and implementing creative projects in the field of tourism. The relevant work will be based on the experience of the School of Business and International Competencies within the framework of the strategic academic leadership program "Priority 2030". It is also planned to launch an MBA program at the new campus.



The parties agreed to establish the Altai branch of the Association of Digital Diplomacy to exchange experience in the field of digitalization and conduct scientific research in the field of digital transformation of international relations.



The design of the campus will be launched this year. The area of the buildings of the educational complex will exceed 30 thousand square meters, investments in construction will amount to 4.8 billion rubles.
